Although sports massage is a beneficial activity, there are times when it could do more damage than good. Here are a few things to be aware of. If in doubt always make me aware of any medical conditions, it may mean we can still continue with the treatment but with some variances or it may mean we need to postpone the treatment to another time or seek medical advice from your Doctor.High Blood Pressure Fever - A body temperature of over 100 and / or flu/cold symptomsAcute traumas (open wounds, muscle tears, severe bruising, sprained ligaments, burns and chilblains) Tumours Diseased blood vessels Cancer / Melanoma Haemophilia or bleeding disorderInfectious skin diseases of any kind If you react badly to massage in general - Diabetes (as blood sugar levels can be affected) If severely dehydrated as massage can dehydrate you even moreOsteoporosisVaricose veinsBroken bonesInflammation - such as phlebitis (inflammation of a vein), dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), arthritis (inflammation of the joints)HerniaAnaemiaEpilepsyUnder the influence of drugs or alcoholSunburn
